Preparing for LASIK: Dos and Don’ts Before Your Surgery
Preparing for LASIK surgery is an important step in ensuring a smooth procedure and a quick recovery. At Fuerst Eye Center, with locations in Glendale and West Covina, CA, Dr. Nicole Fuerst and Dr. David Fuerst are dedicated to providing their patients with the best possible outcomes. To help you get ready for your LASIK surgery, we've put together some essential dos and don’ts to follow in the days leading up to your procedure.
Dos: Make sure to follow all pre-operative instructions provided by your doctor. These may include stopping the use of contact lenses for a period before surgery, as contacts can alter the shape of your cornea. Attend your pre-surgery consultation to ask any questions and to ensure that your eyes are in optimal condition for the procedure. Prior to your surgery date, make sure you pick up plenty of artificial tears and the prescription eye drops you will use after surgery. Buy non-prescription polarized sunglasses if you don't have any. Arrange for a ride (you won't be driving yourself home after surgery!). Staying hydrated and getting plenty of rest in the days before your surgery can also contribute to a smoother experience. Wear comfortable clothing on the day of the procedure.
Don’ts: Avoid using any lotions, creams, or makeup around your eyes on the day of your surgery, as these products can interfere with the LASIK procedure. It’s also important not to wear any perfumes or colognes, as these scents can compromise the sterile environment of the operating room. Refrain from consuming alcohol 24 hours before surgery, as it can cause dehydration and affect the healing process.
By following these simple guidelines, you can help ensure that your LASIK surgery at Fuerst Eye Center is a success. Drs. Nicole and David Fuerst are committed to providing you with a safe and comfortable experience, from preparation to recovery.
